Jeb Dunnuck Scores J Dusi Wines

2016 J Dusi Wines Zinfandel Paper Street Vineyard – 92 points

The standout in the lineup is the 2016 Zinfandel Paper Street Vineyard, which comes from a higher elevation site in the cooler Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. Aged 20 months in 50% new French oak, it offers a complex bouquet of plums, orange liqueur, and cedary spice. It’s nicely balanced, has some lifted volatile acidity (yet it doesn’t detract), medium body, and a beautiful finish. Drink this pleasure-bent Zinfandel over the coming 5-7 years.

2016 J Dusi Wines Mourvedre Cornflower Blue – 91 points

A completely different beast compared to the Zinfandel releases, the 100% varietal 2016 Mourvèdre Cornflower Blue (aged 20 months in 50% new barrels) offers a savory, meaty style as well as loads of red and black fruits, spiced game, and dried soil nuances. Medium to full-bodied, rounded and elegant on the palate, it’s surprisingly elegant and pretty, and has a clean finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. It’s another terrific wine from this estate.

2015 J Dusi Wines Fiorento Dante Dusi Vineyard – 89 points

The inky purple 2015 Fiorento Dante Dusi Vineyard checks in as 60% Zinfandel, 30% Petite Sirah, and the rest Carignan that spent 18 months in barrel. This inky purple-colored effort offers a charming, medium to full-bodied, balanced style as well as lifted notes of spiced blackberries, white pepper, and classic Zinfandel brambly herb notes. Drink it over the coming 4-6 years.

2016 J Dusi Wines Zinfandel Dante Dusi Vineyard – 88 points

The 2016 Zinfandel Dante Dusi Vineyard is a charmer, with lots of sweet fruit and crazy pepper, plum, potpourri and vanilla aromas and flavors. It is unquestionably well-made and delivers loads of pleasure.
